The largely-forgotten story of how Los Angeles Jewish community leaders, financed by the great Hollywood moguls, ran an undercover counter-intelligence network against Nazi groups operating in 1930s California, at a moment when American institutions were unwilling to take the threat seriously.

Forced undercover by the anti-Semitic climate of the decade, the Los Angeles Jewish Community Committee (LAJCC) partnered with organizations whose Americanism was unimpeachable, such as the American Legion, to channel information regarding seditious Nazi plots to Congress, the Justice Department, the FBI and other government bodies." Drawing on more than 15,000 pages of archival documents, Rosenzweig illuminates the role American Jews played in combating Nazism in the United States in the 1930s. In April 1939, Warner Brothers released Confessions of a Nazi Spy, the first Hollywood film to directly confront the Nazi threat, a direct outgrowth of this undercover work.
