Max Hirschberg (1883–1964) was the Jewish Social Democrat who, as one of Munich's leading criminal-defence lawyers, took on Nazi defendants and exposed their crimes in court, most famously cross-examining Hitler's confidant Julius Streicher and prosecuting libel actions on behalf of figures defamed by the völkisch press. He defended political opponents of the rising Nazi movement in Munich's courts during the Weimar Republic, and continued until the Nazi seizure of power made it impossible for a Jewish lawyer to practise at all.
