Sponsored by the German Historical Institute, the volume grew out of an Amsterdam conference in August 2003 examining how the Allied powers and the Germans themselves used the law to prosecute those who had carried out the Nazi state's genocidal crimes, covering issues from the immediate postwar prosecution of war criminals through the long arc of West German trials to present-day Holocaust denial.
