Katrin Himmler, a great-niece of Heinrich Himmler, traces the lives and trajectories of the three Himmler brothers, Gebhard, Heinrich, and Ernst, sons of a respected Munich secondary-school headmaster. Drawing on family papers and archival research, the author shows how an ordinary, respectable bourgeois German family produced one of the principal architects of the Holocaust, and how the other brothers were also bound up with the Nazi project.
