Dr. Otto Dietrich (1897–1952) was Reich Press Chief of the NSDAP from 1931 and Reichspressechef of the Reich Government from 1933 to 1945, one of the longest-serving senior Nazis to remain at Hitler's side. Tried at Nuremberg in the Ministries Case (1947–1949) and sentenced to seven years in prison, Dietrich wrote his memoirs in Landsberg Prison after release: a close-range portrait of Hitler's working style and the Nazi propaganda apparatus, sharply critical of Hitler personally and strongly denouncing the crimes of Nazism, to be read with the necessary caveats about a self-justifying perpetrator memoir.
