The Origins of Totalitarianism, Hannah Arendt, Scholar Select
Hannah Arendt's landmark 1951 study tracing the parallel rise of Nazism and Stalinism back to nineteenth-century antisemitism and European imperialism, and arguing that totalitarianism is a novel form of government that destroys the very category of the human person. One of the most important and widely cited works of political philosophy of the twentieth century.
Arendt (1906–1975) was a German-Jewish political philosopher who fled Europe in 1941. The work first appeared with Harcourt, Brace and Co. (New York), with the UK edition titled The Burden of Our Time. Scholar Select is a print-on-demand imprint of public-domain or out-of-copyright scholarly texts; this is a modern reprint, not an antiquarian first edition.
