The Private Heinrich Himmler: Letters of a Mass Murderer, Katrin Himmler and Michael Wildt (eds.), St. Martin's Press 2016
In letters to his wife Margarete (Marga) Boden, Heinrich Himmler wrote about family life, holidays, and household matters, while simultaneously overseeing the machinery of the Holocaust. This collection of his personal correspondence, written between 1927 and 1945, reveals the private face of one of the principal architects of mass murder, juxtaposing the domestic, sentimental voice of the family man against the operational record of the architect of the SS state and the Holocaust.
Edited with historical commentary by Katrin Himmler, Heinrich Himmler's great-niece, and the historian Michael Wildt of the Humboldt University of Berlin. The dust jacket design incorporates reproductions of original Himmler correspondence documents.
