Walter Winchell reached two-thirds of the U.S. adult population at his peak, and used that reach to denounce Adolf Hitler and Charles Lindbergh's America First isolationism years before such warnings were fashionable. In the 1930s and early 1940s, Winchell was among the first major American media figures to sound the alarm about Hitler and Nazism, using his enormous platform to attack isolationists and campaign for American intervention in the war in Europe. This biography is written from the inside, by Winchell's longtime ghost-writer of more than thirty years, who knew his subject intimately.
