Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Rare Official Edition! Printed During the War, Dedication by a Senior Nazi Officer. Munich, 1939
What makes this copy special:
Printed during the war, Printed in 1939, the year the war broke out (printing batch "509th–513th Auflage", the 509th through 513th sequential printing run since 1925). The dedication itself is dated 1941, the gift was made in the midst of the war.
Official Nazi Party edition, Published by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachf., Munich, the party's own official and exclusive publishing house, which also produced its flagship newspaper, Völkischer Beobachter.
Dedicated by Gauleiter Robert Wagner, A printed dedication leaf, signed in facsimile by Robert Wagner, Gauleiter and Reichsstatthalter of Baden, the man who, barely three months earlier, had personally orchestrated the deportation of over 6,500 Jews to the Gurs internment camp.
Dated 30 January 1941, the exact day Hitler publicly renewed his "annihilation of the Jewish race" threat. This was the day Hitler delivered a major speech in Berlin renewing, word for word, the threat he had first made to the Reichstag on the same date in 1939, reported in the German press under the headline "The Jew Will Be Exterminated."
This is the unabridged one-volume party edition of Mein Kampf, printed by the Nazi Party's own official press. What sets this copy apart is its printed dedication leaf: "In Anerkennung des Einsatzes für den Führer und das Großdeutsche Reich überreicht" ("Presented in recognition of service to the Führer and the Greater German Reich"), signed in facsimile by Robert Wagner, Gauleiter and Reichsstatthalter, and dated "Tag der Machtübernahme, 30 January 1941."
Robert Heinrich Wagner (1895–1946) governed Baden as Gauleiter from 1925 and Reichsstatthalter from 1933. In October 1940, on his own initiative and ahead of orders from Berlin, he organized the mass deportation of over 6,500 Jews from Baden and the Saar-Palatinate to the internment camp at Gurs, France, one of the earliest mass deportations of the Holocaust. He was later tried by a French military tribunal and executed by firing squad near Strasbourg in 1946.
The date on this dedication is no coincidence: on 30 January 1941, Hitler delivered a major Berlin speech publicly renewing the threat he had first issued to the Reichstag exactly two years earlier, that a new world war would bring "the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe." German newspapers ran the 1941 speech under the headline "The Jew Will Be Exterminated," translated the same day for the international press. This gift copy, signed by a Gauleiter who had just deported thousands of Jews, bears the exact date on which the regime's highest authority renewed that threat in public.
Dark cloth binding with the gilt party eagle and swastika on the front board. Condition: good, light wear to spine ends and corners, pages lightly toned with age but complete and legible, presentation leaf present and clearly legible.
Mein Kampf,
Völkischer Beobachter.
