Beyond Nuremberg and Eichmann, ten Holocaust-related trials have been largely forgotten, among them the 1943 Kharkov Trial, the first time Germans were prosecuted for Nazi-era crimes, and the trial of Pierre Laval, the Vichy prime minister who presided over the deportation of 25,000 foreign Jews. Bazyler and Tuerkheimer present these lesser-known post-Holocaust trials, drawn from countries around the world, that have shaped the jurisprudence built in the wake of the Holocaust.
Michael J. Bazyler is Professor of Law and The '1939' Society Law Scholar in Holocaust and Human Rights Studies at the Dale E. Fowler School of Law, Chapman University. Frank M. Tuerkheimer is a former U.S. federal prosecutor, trial lawyer, and Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin. Both authors are practising lawyers as well as academics, dissecting the strategies of the trial lawyers and the decision-making by the presiding judges.
