Carl Schmitt (1888–1985) was a German jurist and political theorist, controversial for his association with the Nazi regime in the 1930s and a major influence on twentieth-century political theory. According to the publisher, this translation by C. J. Miller is more faithful to the original German than earlier English versions and avoids commentary or apologia.
