Drawing on Dr. Kelley's personal papers, Jack El-Hai reconstructs the relationship between U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas M. Kelley and the twenty-two senior Nazi defendants, most centrally Hermann Göring, whom he examined in their cells at Nuremberg in 1945–46, and the long shadow that engagement cast over Kelley's later life and tragic death. The book has been adapted for the upcoming film Nuremberg, starring Russell Crowe (Göring) and Rami Malek (Kelley).
